TAPPI announces new international division nanotechnology-granular powder

TAPPI has announced that its group of nanotechnology have created a new international division of nanotechnology. This Division will focus on nanotechnology for renewable materials, including the advancement of research and development for nanocellulose. The Division of international nanotechnology will focus not only on developments for the traditional forest products as pulp, paper and building materials, but also on applications such as coatings, plastics, digital display, armor Corps, and medical equipment, among others.

Composed of manufacturers, academia, Government, consultants, suppliers and others in the sector, which will serve as the main global forum for the sharing of this rapidly growing sector of knowledge.

"When volunteers CAPS suggested that we take our efforts of nanotechnology to the next level, we jumped at the chance to help the industry to capitalize on this promising sector," said Larry n. Montague, President and CEO of caps. "We see the new Division as a platform to help the industry respond to the rapidly developing field of nanotechnology, especially as marketing develops in this rapidly growing industry."

Creation of the new Division is based on six years of success with International Conference caps on Nanotechnology for renewable materials, held this year in Washington DC, June 6-8 (www.tappinano.org). Among other important contributions, this annual event has accelerated the development of standards for nanocellulose, as for example by bringing the process standard ANSI accredited CAPS to support the ISO Technical Committee on nanotechnologies.  The Division of international nanotechnology will increase this important event by supporting technical developments and the wider understanding of the value of nanocellulosic nanomaterials. It will also address emerging issues around environmental health, safety and risk assessment in the development of nanotechnology-based products.

The new Division of nanotechnology International Division 11th CAP, reflecting continued growth of the Organization, which recently relocated or added divisions such as those for Nonwovens (NET) and business management (PIMA). Each Division works to share knowledge and provide global solutions for industry through a variety of Member benefits, products, services and volunteer opportunities, including publications, events, training and education.

CAPS is now recruiting volunteers for the Division of international nanotechnology that can help you identify the progress of research on renewable materials nanocellulose, development and commercialization. For more information or to join this new Division caps, email Mary Ann Cauthen, TAPPI member, Group Coordinator at mcauthen@tappi.org or visit www.tappi.org for more information.
