Sri Lanka gets Japanese nano-tech supportMar 17, 2011 (FG)-Japan has sent an expert on nanotechnology and related facilities will provide Sri Lanka to help the island develop applications that make exports more competitive. The aid will be given by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Sri Lanka Institute of nanotechnology (SLINTEC) under an agreement signed Wednesday, the aid agency said in a statement.
Assistance from JICA includes sending a Japanese expert who helped to start looking for MEMS/NEMS (Nano Electro Mechanical - - - Systems and Micro-electromechanical Systems) in Sri Lanka and transfer of technology.
"This assistance will help further the introduction of innovations in nanotechnology based industries by small and medium scale in Sri Lanka, accelerating the process of penetration of local industries in international markets," said the statement.
Infusion of JICA Sri Lanka's Chief Representative Akira Shimura developed Nations more funding on nanotechnology promotion with developing Nations following his example.
"JICA hopes nanotechnology will not only provide the opportunity to shape the technological advancement of the country, but also lead to significant breakthroughs and solve the problems of economic, social and environmental concerns," said Shimura. The Government has established the SLINTEC focus on nanotechnology applications in industries such as healthcare, energy, textile, rubber, and telecommunications.
Also known as " nanotech " nanotechnology is the study of manipulating matter at the Atomic and molecular scale.
