NASSCOM hosts first Global Captive Conclave 2011
Saturday, March 26, 2011

Hyderabad: National Association of Software and services companies (NASSCOM) inaugurated the two-day Global Captive Conclave 2011 yesterday, the first event focused on global country for prisoners to discuss debate and outline the rapid evolution of prisoners in Indiae strategize the growth plan for the future. Aligarh: Department of applied physics, Zakir Husain College of engineering and technology, Aligarh Muslim University is organizing a seminar of two days, I have ' Nano ' Aligarh on nanoscience and nanotechnology under the aegis of the UGC and sponsored by the Department of applied physics marzo2011 on 26-27. The speech will be given by prof. Dr. Prasenjit Sen from JNU and Prof. Dr Javed Mussarrat King Saud University, Riyadh is the guest of honour.

Prof. Dr. Alim Husain Naqvi said that nanotechnology is one of the most important and interesting forefront fields in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and medicine. Nanosciences and nanotechnologies is based on the fact that particles less than 100 nanometers in size transform with new properties that would otherwise not seen in materials larger than this. This technology has been widely believed to possess enormous potential to contribute significantly to a wide and diverse range of technology areas, ranging from the production of materials lighter and stronger to targeted drug delivery to cancer cells that afflicts the human bodyby increasing the storage capacity of magnetic tapes, as well as the electric batteries to provide faster switches for computers, new generations of biosensors for cosmetics and a myriad of other possibilities. There is no doubt that it contains the panacea for many of the problems that afflict humans today and for generations to come, Prof. Dr Naqvi added.

Said that it was organized the two-day meeting to facilitate the spread of the use of this technology and to further explore the nature and prospects of the field. Experts in various aspects of nanotechnology from renowned institutes across India will assemble to AMU to deliver specialist talks. There was a huge response to this workshop with the registration of some 250 participants. The Department of applied physics has a Department of science & technology, New Delhi, supported m. Tech program and also enjoys the status of ' Centre of excellence in nanomaterials ' granted by the Council of Science & Technology, the State Government of Uttar Pradesh. The Department is further assisted by the SAP of DRS UGC program. Prof. Ms. s. Alim Husain Naqvi is the Coordinator of these programs and also the Chairman of the workshop. Dr. M.K.J. Siddiqui, Director of CST, Lucknow has kindly consented to grace the occasion.

During the seminar of two days span there will be two invited talks 17, poster presentation sessions and finally liquidation roundtable session and award ceremony. Two prizes of Rs. 5000/-ciascuno have been awarded for the best presented two posters.

Dr. Shakeel Khan and Dr. Wasi Khan are the organizational Secretaries and the Chairman of the Workshop, Department of applied physics, Professor Alimuddin is the co-convener of the workshop.

Lumix takes sharp images, but battery life is suffering-Boston Globe

Digital cameras have more digital every day. Just look at Lumix GH2, an impressive new camera from Panasonic Corp. using a technology that removes some of the extensive mechanical hardware of older design, Panasonic has put together a camera that is small, light and quick on the draw.

It is not a simple point-and-shoot pocket model, but a complete, digital, single-lens reflex camera or DSLR. Most such cameras like the Nikon D90, owner, is relatively large and heavy. It is because when you point to a standard DSLR on your topic, it is supported on a mirror for feed materials the image from the lens through a glass Prism and into the Viewfinder like his movies-user ancestors. When you have lined up your shots and pressed the button, Attach the mirror of the road for that postponed the digital image sensor that detects the image. Everything works very well, but the mirror and Prism means a larger, heavier camera.

My D90, a joint between class DSLR, heavier than 2.5 pounds, zoom lens and all, but the Lumix tested with a similar lens is weighed less than 2 pounds and felt almost too small for my hands. It is called due to a strange named technology Micro four thirds, which eliminates the need for a mirror and Prism. Instead feeds the camera an image from the lens to an LCD monitor on the camera back and another inside the Viewfinder.

Lumix is also smaller, because the Micro four thirds cameras use a smaller image sensor than most other DSLRS. I found this resulted in poorer low-light performance than with my Nikon. But with 16 megapixels to play with, the image quality was usually quite sharp, and when there was less light, I compensated by adjusting the sensitivity of the kameræts.

Change settings takes a flurry of button pushes on my Nikon, but is virtually painless on the Lumix because its rear LCD screen is touch-sensitive. Press an icon with your finger, and you get a host in the options menu. With just a few more taps, you can set most of the essential camera settings. The screen shows the immediate impact of some changes on the image you are trying to register. Change the color balance, for example, and you see the result immediately, without having to shoot a picture. And when you're ready to shoot, you can shoot the shutter without increasing the camera with your eye; just press the screen. In the same way you can check the kameræts video mode, which delivers HD movies with resolutions up to 1080i.

While the Auto focus on the D90 can be painfully slow, Panasonic camera locks in quickly, even in lighting subdued rooms. One of its Auto focus modes even, you can lock onto a person or an object. The camera continues to focus on the goal, although it moves.

But while my Nikon is good for a few thousand shots before recharging, Lumix was dead after only 300 or so. All these advanced features are murder on the battery. They are also not so fun for your bank account. Without a lens Lumix sells for $ 899.95; as I tested, with a lens which zooms from 14 to 140 millimeters, it goes to $ 1,499.95. You can buy a D90 and zoom lens at Amazon.com for under $ 1000, but gives you three-year-old technology.

And while we are on the topic, what about the wretched cameras that Apple building in the iPad 2 Tablet PC, which I tried last week? I wrote that photos from its rear camera was so poor that I predicted a trip to the workshop. I trøde, it was only the volume I had, but the same sad performance has been reported by many users over the network. And while Apple does not release detailed specifications on the camera, tech homepage iFixit.com tore new tablet from each other, and found a camera that delivers less than a megapixel resolution, compared with 5-megapixel camera found on the Motorola Mobility Inc. rival tablet, Xoom.

It appears that it is hardly anything. Motorola has not released sales figures, but tech industry analysts say that despite its name, Xoom is not budging from store shelves. In the meantime sells retailers out of the iPad 2. One thing is certain; No one is buying it to kamera

Domestic green fuel now powers of 47 after a school bus-the Kansas City Star

The days of wood diesel school buses would be weakening.

In the center of Kansas City, Kan., school district added 47 buses that run on compressed natural gas. It is the first school district in Kansas or Missouri to launch a massive fleet with alternative fuel.

"These buses are greener, cleaner, and from domestic sources of compressed natural gas, rather than imported naphtha," said Kelli Mather, Chief Financial Officer in the district.

Buses are expected to reduce fuel costs by more than one-third and to significantly reduce maintenance costs, district officials said.

As prices of gas and naphtha district not short, show that their commitment. Police stopped traffic Wednesday morning as buses swept after State Avenue on the transport centre in the district, where it was produced.

Compressed natural gas vehicle is half of the district the largest buses and replace one-third of its fleet of aging.

$ 7 million project was part of the Department of energy stimulus grant paid $ 4 million. The district covered the remaining cost.

The federal tax credit will pay 50 cents on a gallon of gas. Overall, in the district expects us $ 1 per gallon savings on compressed natural gas versus diesel.

One of the biggest downfalls of compressed natural gas is to reduce costs and scarce petrol station.

George Taylor, Director of transport in the district, said the change would not be possible without a federal grant for the diminishing cost of purchase of the buses. Grant has also paid the entire cost of the construction of a pumping station.

Kansas City Regional Clean Cities Coalition leaders believe that the buses will be rebuilt 1 to 2 million litres of diesel fuel, depending on years of service it provides to each bus. The district also eliminates the "150 000 pounds of greenhouse gases per annum, from the very places where children live, learn and play," said Kelly Gilbert, Director of the Coalition, which the Agency is in part aimed at increasing the fleet with alternative fuels. The Coalition is managed by the Energy Center of the Metropolitan.

At the State border from the city of Kansas City school district has about 250 vehicles using the same-an alternative fuel. Proved to be safe and save significant dollars the cost of maintenance and fuel.

Unified Government of Mayor Joe Reardon said, the program takes to the city and County of vision building sustainable buildings and infrastructure – effort announced several years ago – to the next level.

"We're talking about improving the effectiveness of something that happens every day in our region," said Reardon, he added that domestic fuel provides jobs for Americans.

The district argued that the environmentally friendly aspect was key decision for the choice of compressed natural gas. Few people like the idea of the children of diesel pollution on their way to and from school each day. But the cost savings in a rush in the decision.

Taylor spent four years studying alternative fuels, as he looked to replace buses within the County. In the district settled on compressed natural gas, because it proved to be safe and the purest commercially available fuel.

Buses can fill each night using the system slowly fill. Once full, there are about 400 miles. Whereas, that service stations are not enlarged, and cannot, in the district to eliminate dependence on diesel buses.

Kansas City, Kan., is the first school district in the area so they invest in buses, other. On Wednesday, school officials from other areas, including school district Parkway in Chesterfield, MO., attended to learn more.

The Rosa, transport Director for the District of Parkway, said tougher emission standards each year, and compressed natural gas seems to be the way these standards and save money. But there are other considerations.

"We want to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, as well as Kansas City," said Rosa.

Taylor said he expects students and neighbors the transportation center, the immediate difference in the fumes. You have left for the bus in operation also noticed the difference.

"You suck, diesel engines," he said.

Apple shares hit Japan quake-Times of India

LOS ANGELES/SAN FRANCISCO: rare Wall Street stoked belittling the concerns that Apple Inc. 's hot growth is slowing and sent its shares sliding for the second straight day as nervous investors Ponder largest impact on the tech industry from Japan earthquake.

The largest company in the world lost about 14 billion dollars from Wednesday after JMP Securities Alex Gauna downgraded shares, leading to a sharp pullback in sales growth in Apple's largest Asian contract manufacturer as a sign that business also slows down on the iPhone and iPad manufacturer.

"There is a risk of complacency. Sell side has gotten the game one-upmanship Gauna, "he said. Investors "should make sure that they are comfortable with the situation ... in particular because there are so many uncertainties right now."

He added: "we know that in Japan as a supplier of it depends." Apple shares slide – the largest one-day loss of nearly nine months--comes amid uncertainty about the impact of the largest earthquake to hit Japan.

Accounts for 6 percent of the sales of the Apple and is the main source of components for its screen, many analysts said sufficient influence Apple reins and a good enough record to ensure important components – so far.

The company, which last week launched its iPad 2 tablet on the crowds of fans outside of their shops, lost nearly $ 22 billion in the value of more than two days.

Gauna downgraded Apple performed "market" from "market outperform," based on signs of a serious slowdown in the growth of sales on the Hunt Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd, a contract manufacturer and a subsidiary of Foxconn, which is heavily dependent on the business of the company Apple.

Includes Apple in less than one year, is among only five analysts at Thomson Reuters 54 I/B/E/S with "sell", "hold" or "neutral" rating on the stock market, which is a perennial gold and underpins the global portfolio

In apparent response to the report, said an analyst at Oppenheimer Gauna Yair Reiner Apple contribution hunt Hai revenue--about one-fifth of – was "limited" and the light of attempts by the correlation of their performance.

Ticonderoga analyst Brian White said the shift towards iPad 2-by 11 shops. March – meant a gradual ramp down the original iPad production, which in turn could take the air out of the sails, the Hon Hai.

There was a sale
JMP said sales growth year-over in the Hunt Hai slowed in December from 84% to 37% in January and 26% in February.

Before this week's sale doubled the price of the shares of Apple during 18 months. Apple declined to comment on the downturn. Wall Street is accustomed to Apple's own sales estimates from the water. But he warned that stocks Gauna large technology companies, was the last serious'm on punishment for missing financial estimates.

Nervous, analysts worry about years of Stellar technology giants such as stock prices, Apple would Tumble back to Earth, in particular the intensification of competition for its most popular products, from iPhone to iPad. It is expected that the Tablet sold 1 million units since its launch Friday.

Some of the top hedge fund manager to reduce its shares in Apple and Google Inc. in the fourth quarter, according to a survey Thomson Reuters filings "smart money", some of the largest shares of hedge funds.

But the analyst Walter Piecyk BTIG said that demand for iPad 2 proved strong enough – so far – keep kind of a rip-roaring growth Apple is known.

"On the last weekend showed once again Why Apple makes more than 50% growth. The rows for the iPad 2 extended longer than for the iPhone 4, "he said.

But with the robustness of the global tech supply chain, the investors can choose to play for the safe, now with Apple, analysts say.

Japan is a major source of glass, used by Smartphones and tablets and is home to about one-fifth of the world semi-conductor production. The Japanese factory, producing everything from chips on car parts are closed after the earthquake and the tsunami last week threatened the supply to manufacturers around the world.

Uncertainty about Japan comes as opponents of the Google Android smartphone, its software, Motorola and its tablet Xoom, begin to vie for the attention of the same crowd that buying iPads and iPhones.

"This problem will have far-reaching implications across many leading Tech (producers), and Apple is also in danger," he wrote, the White. But "Apple has enough pull in the supply chain, due to their size, offer agreement with breach of payments and the success of their products to obtain more than the supplier's market share of the output."

New Nano Stanford Center provides state-of-the-art research at ...-Stanford University News

BY SANDEEP RAVINDRAN

Stanford researchers now have access to the latest and greatest tools to explore the strange world and promising nanomaterials. The new laboratories and equipment could pave the way for better solar cells, more efficient batteries and new tools to detect and treat cancer.

The Stanford Center for Nano, along with the existing plant of Nanomanufacturing and Nanocharacterization laboratory must update nanotechnology facilities at the University rank among the best in the world.

The staff of common services of the Centre Nano has started training and working with students and researchers; instruments will become operational during the spring and summer.

A nanometer is a billionth of a meter, the size of a few atoms. "It is a very exciting," said Kathryn Moler, Associate Professor of physics and applied physics which has been coordinating the development of the new Center since 2007. Those stairs, physics, biology and chemistry, which all intersect, "he said.

"Nanoscale research has the potential to advance every field of technology," said Moler. In the search for energy, nanotechnology could help scientists more efficient Platinum catalysts for fuel cell design. In medicine, nanoparticles can be used for targeted drug delivery and medical imaging. And nanotechnology is expected to advance the State of the electronics.

In addition to practical applications, the new tools also help scientists answer fundamental questions about quantum mechanics and the nature of matter.

"Things have different properties at that scale," said Moler. "For example, a piece of a metro gold is gold. But as gold pieces get smaller than 100 nanometers, have many different colors and optical properties.

A 2006 survey of members of the Faculty of Stanford revealed 77 laboratories through campus who were interested in using the most modern equipment of nanotechnology. But the equipment is often large and expensive and must be protected from the smallest vibration from the outside world. "Scientists need different tools to see and manipulate things that are a billionth of a meter," said Moler. "It is a new frontier.

"We decided instead of construction of these structures in 77 different workshops, we could build a laboratory with instruments yet."

The dwarf of Stanford Center is housed the engineering quad, with 2,400 square meters on the first floor and 6,000 square metres beneath the main square. Building the underground structure reduces vibrations and keeps the temperature stable. Power and other utilities are housed offsite to minimise electromagnetic interference.

The Centre also contains several rooms that are kept free of dust, which otherwise could contaminate nanomaterials. And unlike many traditional clean rooms that can be used only for work on silicon, on the first floor of the Center for Nano has clean rooms ' flexible ' where researchers can work on whatever they need for their research.

Senior researcher Rich Tiberius prepares to use lithography ebeam JEOL BONGS 6300.

These clean rooms are "more than a thousand times cleaner than your normal office," said Richard Tiberius, a staff member of the Nano. He believes that the system has "turned a corner with the new year. We finished the tightening bolts, and now we're ready to build things. " The procedure can build objects as small as a few hundred nanometers and can build crafts as small as ten nanometers, Tiberius said.

As some of the more experienced staff Centre Nano, Tiberius divides the time between the three structures of nanomaterials. Roger Howe is the Director of the Faculty of one of these structures, the Stanford Nanofabrication facility. "There is a long history of nanotechnology at Stanford," he said.

"The nicest things about the new Center are wonderful tools in it," said Howe. They make "things that were aboard possibilities become routine".

Howe said that the new equipment, such as "amazing" new electron microscopes will accelerate research students. "For my students, is like a new candy shop, just opened," he said. "We'd like to try all the new things we can do with these new tools".

Someone walking through the corridors will be able to see all these sophisticated instruments in use. "There is a tendency to put in this kind of equipment in dark closets," said Ann buck, Dean of Research at Stanford. "We built the equipment with a wall of glass, so people can see."

Arvin believes that the Centre will help attract Nano students and faculty at the University again. "Facilities like this enables new research, which is what is really important," he said. "If every tool costs $ 6 million to 10 million dollars, an investigator may equip its laboratory with all this equipment.

"I expect that this will help teachers and students to be competitive despite the funding of research. Do experiments require cutting-edge facilities, "he said.

The new plant will be used by teachers from many different fields. This was the reason for the University, its President, several other Deans of individual faculties and departments and that all came together to make it a reality, Arvin said.

Moler and electrical engineering Professor h.-s. Philip Wong headed a Committee of faculty to decide which equipment should have the new structure. Highlights include a microscope that can measure extremely small magnetic fields. "Is unique for a research facility," said Moler.

In addition, a pair of electron microscopes will researchers get a detailed look at Nanomaterials and can also use a beam of electrons to print templates to lowercase on wafers for use in electronics. Scientists will have access to one of the most sensitive mass spectrometers in the world, which will allow them to analyze the amount of materials.

"I'm excited to use the facility," said Robert Sinclair, Director of the Stanford Nanocharacterization laboratory. "The University had great vision. Ten years ago we were behind other prestigious universities, but now our ability to have leap frogged other rank among the best ".

Nanotechnology winners have links to Notre Dame-South Bend Tribune

Professor of physics at the University of Notre Dame Steven Ruggiero, alongside Carol Tanner, founded LightSprite, a company that won the second place and a prize of $ 15,000 at the inaugural nanotechnology New Ventures competition, sponsored by Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame at Purdue on Friday. (Photo supplied)Biomedical citrics, a society Innovation Park, won the top prize at the inaugural that nanotechnology New Ventures competition held on the campus of Purdue University on Friday.

Led by Notre Dame graduate A.J. Noronh and Matthew Vaughn, the company has won a prize of $ 30,000 for his presentation of the business plan on its Nanocomposites product called CitrOSponge.

The substance makes the healing bone and helpers in hard tissue regeneration.

By phone from Chicago on Saturday, Vaughn explained that citrosponge would be used as a scaffold of sorts, to fill the void created after a surgeon removes a bone tumor.

While there are other bony cavity filler on the market, he said, that do not offer the same kind of controlled degradation that would be CitrOSponge.

As regards the award of $ 30,000, it will be used to further develop the business, he said.

LightSprite, led by Notre Dame physics professor Steven Ruggiero and Carol Tanner, finished second and received $ 15,000.

Ruggiero and Tanner LightSprite launched for the creation of a platform designed to characterize nanoparticles and pathogens, a process which has environmental applications in the detection of invasive species as well as geometrical characteristics of proteins.

Tymora analytic, founded by Purdue Professor Andy Tao and Anton Iliuk research assistants and Juan Martinez, collected the prize of $ 10,000 for third place.

MagnAgents and MT2, two subsidiary with Purdue, received $ 1000 as classified in the fourth and fifth place in the event that, in the Burton d. Morgan Center Discovery Park for entrepreneurship and sponsored by Purdue and Notre Dame.

The five finalists were selected by judges from an initial list of 23 entries.

To compete, the contestants had to be affiliated with the State of Indiana through a public or private university or College, or another supported State organization.

Spoiled by the Gadget's all-in-One - New York Times

Some proponents of the consumers and politicians are condemned this as a mobile great own enrichment on the backs of U.S. consumers. And while it may be true, however, we will continue to pay, because mobile operators know, and we also know that you for many of us, our smart phones have become invaluable.

He is no surprise why: the smartphone contains great power in a portable package. It is connected to a global network of data that moves to another at the speed of light words, sounds and images from one end of the Earth. It is changing the world of communication, trade, politics, entertainment and many others.

An increase in the rates of the United States in line with many other countries. Currently, the United States is one of the most profitable mobile markets in the world. In the past five years, they have decreased costs per minute in the United States 50%, according to Chetan Sharma, a mobile analyst. In countries such as France and Italy, the decline has been only 20 per cent.

Roger Entner, an analyst who follows the cellular market, said: "the Americans are enjoying cheaper in the industrialized world." "Now, we don't know how good we have it".

Consider what makes a smartphone, and devices that replaced, and increases its value. A refurbished iPhone 3GS is now on sale for AT & T $19. With less expensive data and voice and a two year contract plans, a client would pay about $1,800 for 24 months, including taxes and duties.

But to do all the things you can do a smartphone without buying one, that same consumer would have to buy the following:

A cell phone (at least $ 800 more than 24 months: $20 for a device, as well as $25 or more per month on a prepaid plan, higher taxes and fees).

A mobile email reader ($ 430: 9 Peek, an email reader, is $70; two years of service costs $360).

A music player (iPod Nano is $149).

A camera from point-and-shoot (about 200 dollars).

A camcorder (about 200 dollars).

A GPS unit (they start at $80).

A portable DVD player (they start at $60).

A recorder of voice (about $40).

A clock (about $30).

A calculator (around $10).

Total cost: $1999

On a smartphone, all devices are reduced to the software. They are a tap away, and new features or services can be downloaded in seconds.

One of the side effects of this is that it is difficult to appreciate the value of things. We are complacent because we now have huge capacities that we can access easily (even those of us who are technophobes). Louis C. k., comedian, made this point when he appeared on "Late Night with Conan or ' Brien" in the fall of 2008. "Everything is amazing and nobody's happy," he ranted about the pampered nature of the American consumer.

Consider the possibility of what used to be forced to buy a camera, or a GPS unit or any other kind of gadget: had to investigate what model to buy. Time was spent in going to the store or waiting for the device come in the mail. There was hardware: packaging and a piece of equipment: inside, all the signals that had work of someone who is. And because of those signals, ascribed value to the object and they were willing to pay for it, sometimes generously.

Compare that with the smartphone experience. A camera or GPS unit is already probably included in the device. Add new things, as a special application alarm, is a process of 20 seconds of searching and downloading. Many of the tracks of the physical world, touch of mass, time,-are absent. Without them, he hit to our sense of value out of its moorings.

The price of apps reflects this new territory. App of the Zagat Guide restaurant, for example, includes a year of access to each guide the company publishes a year.

Added features include a database, the ability to find restaurants near you using GPS, images of dishes from restaurants and the ability to make reservations online, directly from the application. It costs $10. The 2011 Zagat guide printed to restaurants in New York, which is limited to five districts and has none of these characteristics, costs $16.

And they will be more expensive mobile plans. And because complaining about the phone company is before the arrival of the smartphone (and because mobile operators continue to give us so many reasons to complain), there will be a lot of grumbling and grousing, but people will continue. DST phenomenon: Apple IDF would prefer Spring-CNET

Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad again had problems of transition to summer time and back.

Frustrated US iDevice users Facebook, Twitter and Apple Forum griefed weekend, their clock instead of leaping forward.

This means many alarm triggered at the wrong time yesterday and today, people are late for meetings, Church and anything else people do on a Sunday morning (even for me, just don't be me).

"Thank you, an iPod Touch and iPhone for me late for work! DST does not work correctly, "wrote Twitter user iSiC_XXIII.

Meemnoonwowrah Twitter user wrote: "women, the need to restart your iPhone repair DST time switch. Androidní phone was automatic. Even MS has laid down. Come on Apple. Up your game. "

According to PCMag.com is easy to fix. "Turn off the phone and again or go to the device settings and turn on airplane mode briefly, then flip it off."

The problem with the bug, which reflects the European and the Australia and New Zealand iPhone owners last year, when the switch from daylight saving time and back to GMT. The problem would logically, hit by Europe again in a few weeks. Apple still has not responded to the request for comment.

The next time there is a problem 2. January, when the alarms again appears unable to leave, then accidentally looked at the following day.

Maybe Apple needs to hire CCO (Chief Officer of clockmaking) who can tune the device back up?

Concept Aston Marton Mobiado phone is transparent
The Android phone from the Mobiado CPT002 Aston Martin concept have capacitive touch screen of solid Sapphire Crystal. Sidebabars Platinum could host the electronics, the SIM card and battery. You'd like! And of course, it would have integration with his Aston Martin car - you connect it to the screen, showing places of parking, points of interest, automatically update the sites of social networks with photos and statistics when you are in travel by road (if decided) and help to control the response capacity of the airbag and other implementations of security should be an accident.

The pacifier of Dr. Shuuuuuut seems a very clever way for the effective implementation of medicine to their sick wee one (and no, my password does not block or). There is a special room in the pacifier that can contain a capsule of medicine. Place a capsule in and rotated to release the medicine. Olympus compact camera Rails, but only in decent light-Wired News

Compact cameras with quick professional-style lentils have blow up big time last year.

However, only recently acceded to the Olympus fun. Yes, the company produce some point-and-shoot style models with "fast" apertures back in the early 2000 — chunky 4-megapixel Olympus C-4040, with its f/1.8 lens was one of our favorites at the time. But of late its focus has been on, mirrorless interchangeable lens, Micro four thirds cameras such as the PEN E-PL2.

All that changes with the new 10-megapixel Olympus XZ-1, a stylish small camera with an impressive attached lens: 4 x zoom (28-112 mm equivalent) with a maximum aperture of f/1.8.

The lower aperture number, the larger opening in the lens, to allow more light hitting the sensor, which (theoretically) makes for better pictures in dim conditions. Camera nerds already know the importance of this — most professional photographers consider an f/1.8 DSLR lens an important part of any camera bag — but plan consumer, it is a big step from the norm.

Compact cameras are f/1.8 designation slightly different, however. You can only achieve that Aperture lens when kameræts withdrew back to the widest focal length — 28 mm in the XZ-1 cases — and because the sensor in a point-and-shoot is so small, it is difficult to get the shallow depth of field to create beautiful background blur for portrait images.

There are other advantages to a fast aperture, however, not least of which is that you can turn off this nasty flash on your camera and still capture crisp photos in the dark. Some of the XZ-1 competitors, such as the 10-megapixel Canon Powershot S90 and Panasonic Lumix LX5, both of which boast f/2 lenses, are real low-light killers. They let you snap sharp images of your friends at pub no matter how pale you feel. Actually we had seen the LX5 as much as we called the camera in the year 2010.

In addition to its fast lens, XZ-1 uses a larger than average imaging chip to a point-and-shoot: a 1/1.63-inch CCD 10 MP, which has the same size as the one in our favorite LX5. With this football expression punch, plus a row of interesting functions packaged in a sleek, attractive camera body, XZ-1 should be quite the little Sharpshooter, right? Well, Yes and no.

Although all-black XZ-1 I tested (it also comes in white) looks like some competing cameras in this category, there are a few of the differences. For someone who iZuiko-branded f/1.8 lens not themselves fully in the body such as the S90 camera, lens, makes for a thicker than Powershot empty at its widest point.

This was not such a big deal — it is still pretty thin — but what annoyed me was løsthængende the lens cap. If you decide to use the common agricultural policy, you must bind it down to the neck hanger eyelet with included cords or it will fall when the camera expands its lens while the power transfer. Good luck to fit both the neck strap and camera cords in the eyelet. It is a struggle. On the other hand, if you decide to give up on the common agricultural policy (Cap), have a tendency to get smudged projecting lens.

Disappointing is also very small buttons and overly Spartan layout on the back of the camera. Da XZ-1, supposedly, seeks photographers who may know their way around f/stop and shutter speeds, why is there not the button on the camera ISO, white balance or other key creative functions? Yes, you can access to some of these by using the control Ring around the lens at the front of the camera, but it is an extra step, you will brake.

And while the 3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 610,000-dot on the back of the XZ-1 is a sweet, kameræts menu system is messy and counterintuitive. Napkin medium-sized Quick Start Guide was also not much help to make sense of settings and menus. If you want to do a deep dive on the XZ-1 functions, you have to pop in a CD-R to see the full user's Guide. Not practical.

The good news is that when you count everything out on the XZ-1, hums it like a well-oiled machine. The camera uses Olympus ' TruePic V processor and it powers on and is ready to shoot in on-and-a-half seconds. Shutter lag is almost non-existent in good lighting and only less in low light. I had also seen the red one-touch video button on the back of the camera below mode call, which immediately gives the camera rolling in its 720 p, 30 fps HD video mode.

Chinese by extolling and Underhyped, Greentech Boom-GigaOm

The biggest opportunity or the biggest threat that American industry green technology ever faced, depending on who you're listening, I recently China. But for entrepreneurs and investors closely involved in China's Green leap forward, the truth is somewhere between these two extremes.

It is a message from the centres of the Cleantech Forum in San Francisco, where several experts greentech China set out their views on the most exaggerated — and small — presentation of China's growing role in the global green technology. Here are a few samples of the two categories:

Three ways China Greentech markets are on:

1). the rise of China in the green technology is a threat to US competitiveness: by Andrew Beebe, commercial Director for China, a giant solar panel Suntech, China and the us are not competitors, as well as two key players in the market, the global green technologies.

"It is not a winner and a loser" in a competition between China and the us are growing their businesses, renewable energy, he said. Certainly, China leads the world in solar panel production, but each one solar production work leads around the three points in the installation and maintenance of these panels in markets like the US, and "jobs never externally", he said.

2). the domestic solar industry in China is catching up to the American market: Beebe said, that's just not happening, and probably will not happen in a few years at least. This is partly because China, while still the second-largest economy in the world, is still developing economy where most people live on wages, which should consider the level of poverty in the US and in Europe.

But he said that the Chinese domestic market for solar energy also is lagging behind, because China's strength in large systems, centralized renewable energy such as wind farms is not accompanied by their sophistication in the interconnection of distributed generation resources like rooftop solar systems. That's one big reason that the Chinese market is still the smallest in terms of Suntech's solar panel sales, he said.

3). China is not a friendly place for the early phase of green tech startups: there is no doubt that China lacks the angel investment and venture capital in the early phase of the communities, which has the UNITED STATES, said Andy Tang, General Manager, ABB Technology Ventures, the venture arm of the Swiss grid, the giant ABB.

But he said that China is for the wealth of Government-supported incubators. "Many local governments have a lot of money, and they want to give to work," he said. "It is quite sound field for the early phase of opportunity," even for the US or European companies with technologies that can help.

Three reasons, which is a small Chinese market:

1). smart grid plans include China's more than a massive new transmission lines and substations: China is planning to direct the lion's share of the smart grid buildout its estimated $ 100 billion over the next five years towards a new massive transmission system to connect solar and wind resources in the West to the center of population on the East. But at the same time, the country is to install millions of smart meters in a time, Tang said, and in China, unlike the US, 1 million meters may be a pilot project.

"In comparison with the US, in terms of the investment firm, that it is an area where it can bring good returns," he said. One of the examples, from his previous work as Tang partner of DFJ DragonFund China, Miartech startup, which developed the technology for Powerline carrier, which is now used as a standard for State grid Corp. of China's plans for the introduction of smart meters to 170 million in the coming years.

2). the Chinese Government opens the door to foreign partnership in the area of green technologies. There is no doubt that the Chinese Government was a key factor for the growth of green technologies – and that the Government links to a large extent dictate the success for China's green tech companies.

But in his last $ 1.5 trillion of the five-year economic plan, the Chinese Government has stated that a large part of the appropriations is intended for key industry is expected to come from the private sector, said Mike DeWoskin, Director of China Research Center insight and Deloitte. This includes the objective of the 5 trillion yuan (761 billion dollars), China set for investment in alternative energy in the next ten years, he said. "We're getting the window has not been opened previously, which is very important for cleantech investors."

3). China offers foreign investors exit strategies: Mohsen Khalil, global head of the business climate for the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, an institution that is carried out on the $ 1 billlion in Chinese clean tech investments – agreed that the exits for equity investors are more difficult to predict in China than in the developed markets of the US IPO.

Yet in the IT sector, where IFC has a greater return on the portfolio venture capital are now outpacing other regions, he said. "At the beginning, we were concerned because ... the outputs are not well defined. It's still evolving, but now we have any, and the yield is 40 percent-plus. "

There's plenty of indication that China may offer the same opportunities, the green investment as well. China led the world in green technology IPOs last year and are forecast that will keep the head in 2011.

DSLR will be around much longer? -Tech2

Digital Photography took off in the last decade, and all rushed to buy himself a nice little digital camera. I am talking about the point and shoot cameras, we are so accustomed to today. Interest in the P/S cameras is still present, but it is not to the same extent as it was back in the earlier half of the Decade.

DSLR on the way out?

These days all want to buy a DSLR. They have always portrayed image becomes serious photographer tool. All of which points you sporting a DSLR around your neck believes you to be a serious photographing enthusiast, regardless of how little or how much do you really know about photography. I believe it has been the fashion to make a DSLR with bag full of lenses of large social gatherings. It works both ways – on social events such as weddings, you take over automatically by a photographer role.

DSLR has always been superior point and shoots, when it comes to performance and quality. Even the cheapest DSLR will always be superior to the majority of point and shoot cameras on the market. And if you're wondering, phone cameras do not get close to any DSLR or even point and shoot cameras. Point and shoot have always had somewhat lower quality and performance, which is first and foremost, contributed by the lack of a large sensor, which you typically find on a DSLR camera. Point and shoot cameras, however, is smaller, lighter, easier to use and is more convenient.

There has been a change in the trend recently. Major camera manufacturers have started the design and manufacture of cameras, that falls somewhere between a DSLR and point-and-shoot camera. They manage to tie performance of DSLR to ease and practicality of a point and shoot. Attempts have been made by the manufacturers where smaller sensors have been used. These were popularly called Micro four third system cameras, and these spawned a number of new lenses and accessories. Keep costs or increase margins, lacked the quality of the product itself. The trend is not completely removed and enthusiasts established on ultrazoom and prosumer cameras because they had large optical zooms, tons of features and fairly good image quality at an affordable price.

I, personally, was particularly impressed by the recent Sony NEX-5, which was one of the better cameras have gone through. It is not a Micro four third camera and using the same APS-C format sensor as a conventional DSLR and executes as. Canon also has a PowerShot G series, which is a prosumer class camera, but one of the features missing are interchangeable lens. NEX-5 has a pair of interchangeable lenses, which you can buy. The price of the camera is not all that high either. It is priced at a little more than a basic-level DSLR camera. One of the few of its kind has its disadvantages-Sony requires a price.

But what if these cameras became cheaper and drop under mark Rs. 20000? Should not a lot of people just give up their DSLR and move to the new mirrorless system cameras? There are a couple of things stopping us from doing. First is probably the price today. I would not use Rs. 30,000 on a camera that performs as an entry-level DSLR. With DSLR prices of less than Rs. 30,000, had I much prefer one of these.

For some reason I am not very keen is that there is not an optical Viewfinder as you find in DSLR. An electronic viewfinder, I have found on each camera, I have gone through have a poor resolution gives average hardly quality and frame rates fluctuate dramatically when you play around ISO settings or shoot in low light. If there is one thing, I do not like about Sony A55, another decent camera, it was the electronic Viewfinder. The on-screen Display is more comfortable and is fine for most applications, but more serious photographers may agree that the EVF is annoying. Each brand have their lens mount, but a new format means there are even fewer options in the market. If I use on a DSLR, I still have the option to select from a much wider range of lenses in the market.

Here is what I think is necessary for mirrorless systems which have been accepted (mainly my wishlist). They must be cheaper than a basic DSLR. A good market price would be somewhere between Rs. 15000 and Rs. 25000, which should include an 18-105 mm lens. Camera manufacturers should develop an adapter that allows you to use lenses from traditional DSLR. Processor power kameræts should also increase to remove intermediate and poor results while shooting photos in low light.

US sales were at the low end Mac expectations – but still with 16 percent of the year – in the first two months of the March quarter, before Apple releases new MacBook for the report.

The latest home sales tracking data from the NPD Group shows that US Mac sales for the year in January and February 2011, the year was 16 percent. As noted by Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray, the consensus view on Wall Street is that Apple will release Mac sales 22 percent for the fiscal year March quarter.

The number is low, but is also two months before Apple released their new line of MacBook pro, which arrived at the end of February. This suggests that the sale may mácena before the expected update. To support this theory, the American Mac sales were somewhat more--20 percent--in January.

In addition, international sale Mac tend to have stronger year after year growth than sales in the US, Apple. For this reason, Munster expects Mac between 20% and 25% for the quarter, a number that would be in line with the expectations of Wall Street's 22 percent.

And devices such as iPhone and iPad continue to grow in popularity, the Mac also becomes less important part of Apple's business. Munster said that the estimated revenue will represent only the Mac 21 percent of the total revenue of Apple in the calendar year 2011.

If the Mac sales grow between 20 percent and 25 percent for the year, Apple would sell an estimated 3.5 to 3.7 million units in the frame of three months. Wall Street generally Apple expects sales for 3,6 million Macs in the quarter, which ends in March.

Munster also notes that the NPD data indicate sales of between 9.8 million and 10.3 million iPod March quarter, which would be a reduction of between 5% and 10 percent from a year ago. Wall Street generally expected iPod down about 6 percent a year for the year.

International iPod sales are greater than the international Mac sales mix. In consequence, the NPD in home monitoring data shall be borne by a greater margin of error in the projecting iPod sales.

In the previous quarter, Apple sold a record feast of 4,1 million Macs, helps the company to earn their best ever revenues of 26.74 billion dollars. Mac sales were significantly assists the popular MacBook Air, which was delivered to more than 1 million.

Japan quake: Situation update; donation info-imaging resource (press release)

Japan quake: Situation update; donation info (UPDATED)
By Michael R. Tomkins, The Imaging Resource
(Monday, March 14, 2011 - 17:07 EDT)

Last Friday, we published a report on the disaster unfolding in Japan, where a combination of a major earthquake, tsunami, numerous aftershocks, and damaged nuclear reactors have left Japanese citizens and businesses alike struggling to cope.

The country is home to quite a few of the biggest names in the imaging industry, and over the weekend, several Japanese companies have released statements regarding the situation at their own facilities. Four companies -- Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, and Olympus -- have so far reported injuries to staff, and in addition, numerous companies have had to temporarily halt production or close facilities. We've done our best to round up information on the situation for Imaging Resource readers, but before you read on, we'd urge you to consider visiting the Google Crisis Response page, where you can make a donation towards the relief effort. (The link will open in a new window, so you can easily return to this item afterwards.)

Canon Inc. has advised that 15 employees were injured at its Utsunomiya facility, which is said to have sustained significant damage. The Canon divisions at this location are responsible for production, research and development of a range of optical products, including EF lenses, as well as lenses for camcorders, broadcast cameras, business machines, LCD projectors, and other specialized lenses, plus mirror projection aligners and semiconductor equipment. Operations at this facility have been suspended, and the company notes that "time will likely be needed" before operations can resume in Utsunomiya .

In addition, the facility of a subsidiary company -- Fukushima Canon Inc. -- has also suffered significant damage. Thankfully there are no reported injuries at the facility, which produces inkjet printers, print heads, and ink tanks, but this facility is also expected to take some time to return to operation. Several other facilities were also closed today, and their operational status going forwards is still being determined. These include the Toride plant (office imaging products, etc.), and the Ami plant (LC and semiconductor exposure equipment), plus four other subsidiaries -- Canon Precision Inc. (micro motors, miscellaneous sensors, toner cartridges), Canon Optron Inc. (optical crystals, evaporation materials), Canon Chemicals Inc.'s Iwama Plant (toner cartridges), and Canon Mold Co. Ltd. (plastic molding). No injuries were reported at any of these facilities.

Separately, Canon has announced the establishment of an Earthquake Disaster Recovery Task Force, which is looking into measures to resume operations, including potentially shifting production to alternate locations, where it determines that a facility's operations may need to be suspended for over a month. Canon has also pledged 300 million yen (approximately US$3.7 million) to the Japanese Red Cross and other organizations, as well as offering to provide supplies as needed.

Nikon Corp. has reported that some of its staff have been injured, and notes that it is continuing to gather information on the situation. The company has established an Emergency Headquarters for Disaster Control headed by its President. The company has reported damage to a number of facilities, which have had to suspend operations. Among these, a facility of particular note to our readership is Sendai Nikon Corp. in Natori, which produces DSLRs including the D3X, D3S, and D700. Other facilities listed as having sustained damage include Miyagi Nikon Precision Co., Ltd (Zao-machi; devices for LCD steppers and scanners), Tochigi Nikon Corporation (Otawara; optical lenses, opto-mechanical equipment, electronic imaging devices), Tochigi Nikon Precision Co. Ltd. (Otawara; devices for IC steppers & scanners, lenses for IC / LCD steppers and scanners). Nikon notes that it is evaluating how the facility damage and rolling blackouts will affect its business.

Separately, Nikon has pledged 100 million yen (approximately US$1.2 million) to the Japanese Red Cross.

Panasonic Corp., meanwhile, has issued an advisory stating that some employees received minor injuries at the Fukushima and Sendai factories of Panasonic AVC Networks Co., which manufacture digital cameras and optical pickups respectively, as well as at the Koriyama factory of Panasonic Electric Works Co. Ltd. (electronic materials), and the Gunma factory of Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. (washers / dryers). The company goes on to note that it has not received reports of collapse or fire at any of its facilities, and that it is temporarily suspending operations at the quake-affected factories pending a fuller evaluation of the damage.

A further release from Panasonic pledges 300 million yen (approximately US$3.7 million) in donations, as well as providing 10,000 radios, 10,000 flashlights, and 500,000 dry batteries to assist victims of the earthquake.

A Japanese-language PDF press release from Olympus Corp. confirms that some employees sustained minor injuries, but doesn't elaborate on this. We understand from information provided to the UK's Amateur Photographer magazine by the local Olympus office that the company's digital camera production is unaffected, and indeed the Japanese-language press release makes no mention of imaging products. It also confirms that the local sales office in Sendai is undamaged and preparing to resume operations, although several endoscopy-related businesses -- Aomori Olympus Co. Ltd., Shirakawa Olympus Co. Ltd., and the company's Shirakawa factory -- have had to temporarily halt operations. Aomori Olympus is said to be unable to procure supplies, while we understand the other two companies have some damage to facilities, as well as a lack of power supply. A separate Japanese-language press release notes that a repair facility at the Shirakawa location is expected to take 2-4 weeks to resume operations.

Casio Computer Co. Ltd., meanwhile, has yet to make an English-language statement, but a Japanese-language PDF press release states that the company's staff received no serious injuries, and its facilities have not sustained significant damage. It is currently working to confirm the status of its production lines and assure safety before resuming operation, and notes that it expects interruptions to vital utilities will play a role in determining when it can resume operations. A separate Japanese-language press release notes that the company has pledged 10 million yen (approximately U$120,000) in donations, and will further match donations made by its employees.

While Fujifilm Corp. states that it has thankfully not received any reports of staff injuries, a press release issued today by Fujifilm UK Ltd. confirms that the parent company's Taiwa-Cho factory, which was responsible for production of the fixed-lens, APS-C sensor shod X100 digital camera, has sustained damage. This will apparently necessitate a temporary halt in production of the Fuji X100, but the company states that the rest of its digital camera range are unaffected. In addition, the company's head-office has issued a Japanese-language press release noting that the Japanese market's service and support facilities have sustained damage, which has required a temporary relocation of these functions to other facilities. Fujifilm has also pledged 300 million yen (approximately US$3.7 million) in donations, as well as 470 million yen (approximately US$5.8 million) in relief supplies, including diagnostic ultrasound systems and dust / virus protection masks.

Being headquartered in Wakayama, in the south of Japan, Noritsu Koki Ltd. and its recently-established subsidiary NK Works Co. Ltd. have suffered no injuries or damage to facilities, according to a statement published by PMA Newsline. The company is continuing with production and distribution, and further notes that it is working to reestablish contact with and offer support to its customers throughout the country.

Ricoh Co. Ltd., meanwhile, reports no injuries at its facilities in a Japanese-language press release. Three facilities have stopped operations and are expected to take some time to return to operations. We understand that these include Ricoh Optical Industries Co. Ltd. in Hanamaki (optical elements, light source, and welding machines), Hasama Ricoh Inc. in Tome (copiers and data processing equipment), and Tohoku Ricoh Co. Ltd. in Shibata-gun (printers, bar code devices, peripherals). In addition, Ricoh Printing Systems Ltd. in Ibaraki is currently closed. Other facilities were either operating today, or are expected to resume operations tomorrow. Ricoh has pledged 300 million yen (approximately US$3.7 million) in donations towards recovery efforts.

While parent company Hoya Corp. has yet to issue any release, Pentax has published a statement on its Japanese-language website. This notes that due to rolling power blackouts, the company decided to close operations of the Pentax Customer Service Center, Tokyo Service Center, Pentax Forum Shinjuku, Pentax Family Magazine, and the Pentax Online Shop today, and plans to make a statement on its website later regarding tomorrow's operations.

SanDisk Corp. reports that two of its fabs located some 500 miles from the epicenter of the quake were down for a brief period on Friday, but returned to operation later the same day. The company has received no reports of employee injuries, and predicts minimal immediate impact on output.

Sigma Corp. hasn't yet released any information on the status of its operations or employees, but it has posted a brief note on the Japanese and English-language versions of its global website, offering its condolences to those affected by the disaster.

Sony Corp. is another company that thankfully reports no significant injuries to its staff, although several of its sites have been affected by the disaster, and others have temporarily shuttered operations due to widespread power outages. The Sony Corporation Sendai Technology Center is said to have ceased operation due to earthquake damage, and while it is still reviewing the situation, the company says that other locations have only been moderately affected, with no reports of facility damage. Sony facilities that have suspended manufacturing operations, or suspended operations altogether, include Sony Chemical & Information Device Corp. (Tagajyo, Tome, and Kanuma plants; magnetic tapes, Blu-Ray discs, optical devices, IC cards), Sony Shiroishi Semiconductor Inc. (Miyagi; semiconductor lasers), Sony Energy Devices Corp. (Koriyama, Motomiya, and Tochigi plants; lithium ion batteries), Sony Manufacturing Systems Corp. (Kuki plant; surface mounting equipment), Sony DADC Japan Inc. (Ibaraki; CDs / DVDs), and Sony Corp. Atsugi Technology Center (R&D).

Optics company Tamron Co. Ltd. has announced that its Japanese offices will be closed today and tomorrow. It further notes that it expects outages for its Japanese corporate website during periods of rolling blackouts, and indeed, the website is offline at the time of this writing.

The staff at the Imaging Resource are deeply shocked and saddened by the scope of this disaster, and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan, as well as those in other countries affected by the tsunami, which caused damage as far as away as Peru and Chile. We'd encourage readers who'd like to contribute to the relief effort -- as well as those seeking further information -- to visit the Google Crisis Response page, where you can make a donation and share information with other internet users.

Apple handcuffs ' open ' web apps on the iPhone Home screen, click the registry

Exclusive Apple's iOS operating system runs on the mobile web applications dramatically slower speeds, when you start the screen on the iPhone or the iPad at home only at the Apple Safari browser, and at the same time, the operating system to make it difficult for these applications by any other means, according to a top performance, several developers and registered.

It is unclear whether they are accidental bugs or issues, Apple deliberately introduced. But the end result is that, at least in some way the platform make it difficult for web apps iOS replace the Apple App Store, where the company has a 30% cut, all applications that have been sold to distributed through the native applications. This native applications can be run only for the Apple operating system, web apps – built with standard web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript – which may or may not be run on any device.

"Apple is, in principle, the use of subtle bugs in web apps appear to be of poor quality – even if they claim that HTML5 is a fully supported platform," says one of the mobile web application developer who asked that his name not be used.

Apple did not respond to several requests for comment.

If the web application that runs iOS 4.3 home screen – in other words, if it is stored alongside the Apple App store – it will be downloaded to the local apps on the screen are two roughly two and a half times slower than it does in the browser, depending on the various top. It seems that Apple has updated the iOS 4.3 Safari browser for its high-speed Nitro JavaScript engine, the Nitro is not used when the web apps has launched the home screen.

Alex Kessinger, for mobile application developer and blogger, which is focused on the construction of web-standards-based apps on the iPhone, "are two different JavaScript engines," says. "They are not used to the new JavaScript interpreter applications that start with the home screen."

In addition, such "home screen web apps" can not be used in different systems, including the HTML5 application cache, which means they are not in the cache to run the offline cache for the web. And they are not conducted on Apple's newer "asynchronous mode". They are saddled the old "synchronous mode", which means, they do not print pretty good.

Offline web app ' ", the home screen of Apple 3, iOS 4.

Although the company did not respond to our queries, Apple is apparently aware of the home-screen web apps for all three questions. According to Apple developers posting on the Web, speed-the problem is discussed in the company's developer support forums, and developer of the same anonymous – the above-quoted one developer with several bugs fixed Reg have been filed on the subject.

He says also that the bugs have been filed and the status of the asynchronous cache problems – and that he is actually deals with the problems of the Apple. "I've spoken to people in the Mobile Safari to the team, who said they knew [caching] problem," he tells us. The caching problem is discussed in a popular developer site due to stackoverflow.

All three issues are reflected in the original iOS web applications that use the UIWebView API – i.e. Apple, native applications that tap the web in a big way. Alex Kessinger "[UIWebView] is the driver, which may contain the user's app to provide web content," says. "Some of their entire application written in HTML format, and then just bundle it for inclusion in the App store."

Last year, such as the Apple boss Steve Jobs defended the company's decision to ban the iPad and the iPhone in Adobe Flash, he told the world that Apple believed in the "open" web standards. "We believe Strongly that the web should be open to all standards. Rather than the use of Flash, Apple has adopted HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, "jobs said in his famous" thoughts, "an open letter to the Flash.

"Apple's mobile devices, all with high performance, low power implementations of open standards. HTML5, the new web standard that has been approved by Apple, Google and many others, allows web developers to create sophisticated graphics, typography, animations, and transitions without third-party browser extensions (such as Flash) based. HTML5 is completely open and standards Committee, Member of the Apple is controlling. "

But at the same time, the company is in the interest of its App Store, if it takes a 30% cut, all applications that have been sold and the pure web applications are ultimately a threat to the store, in particular when they are loaded into the main iOS, as though they were local apps. "Some people want to think about it, it is a conspiracy theory, but it may be a problem," says, referring to the Kessinger speed problem. "If it is a conspiracy, it makes much more sense for Apple. If the home screen, "web apps" in the block, you can prevent people from bypassing the App store, in a way. "

iPad 2 rolling review: camera, FaceTime, PhotoBooth, iMovie-InformationWeek

Camera

Is an understatement to say that iPad 2 's cameras not meant to take photos. They produce terrible pictures.

The program itself is a copy and paste in the treatment of the iPhone's camera. It is as fundamental as it comes. The camera is started via a software button on the iPad screen and it jumps to life quickly. There is really only a few options.

Images are captured by pressing the button at the bottom of the screen software. If you want to switch to user-facing camera or video recorder, there are buttons, you can do. The application also supports Zoom and provides instant access to the photo gallery. Otherwise, there is no fancy features for camera software itself.

How are the results? Poor, poor and poor. User-facing camera captures a pathetic 0.3 megapixel (VGA). Images are chock full of cereal and full digital artifacts, and I noticed the camera had problems to deal with the white balance correctly. It is pretty worthless for anything other than FaceTime Chat (more on this in a bit).

Main camera is better, but not by much. It handles essentials such as white balance, colour reproduction and focus well, but there is still so much grain/noise still images are mostly unusable. Indoor, manufactures the camera darker rooms, rough images with few details. When outdoors in plenty of sunlight, the results are much improved. In addition to quality problems, which I have written earlier, is by using a tablet pc as a camera, in addition to awkward. It has not meant to happen.

The same applies to video. The program video camera, which behave similarly to camera app makes, produces only slightly better results. Apple says main camera captures 720 p HD video and my test showed that to be true. Main camera is much more useful video-is the user-facing camera really only intended for FaceTime.

It is nice to kamerærne are there? Sure. But they are bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality.

FaceTime

Why Apple add cameras to the iPad? FaceTime, of course! FaceTime is Apple's video Chat software. It works as with the iPhone, only via Wi-Fi (this is a silly restriction, but whatever). FaceTime call requires that you dial in an e-mail address (not a phone number). I was able to implement the FaceTime Chat with other iPad users, iPhone 4 users and users of the program FaceTime to Apple's desktop and laptop computers.

The experience is not very different from most video Chat software. IPad 2 produces a large image of the person with whom you are saying and showing, what you see in a smaller window. Extra screen real estate is nice, and I found the whole experience more pleasant than FaceTime on the iPhone 4.

What are the disadvantages? Wi-Fi constraint for launchers, and more important, inability to use it with anything other than another iPad, iPhone, or Apple computer 4. It would be nice if Apple opens FaceTime, so that it works across video Chat services. That will never happen, but we can always dream.
